It was 0600. Time to board their drop-ships. The Marines of First Squad, Chalk One, boarded Kilo Two-Seven. They were frosty and more ready than ever. Staff Sergeant Hayek took the seat closest to the back ramp. He would be the first one off the transport. The drop-ship ascended into the air and flew area, Kilo Two-Eight behind it. They did not know what to expect from the Strogg, but did know they were in for a fight.
The Marines flew over the city limits of Detroit. They were now in No Man's Land. They would have to fight hard to take the city square. Real hard. As the drop-ship screamed through the sky, the activity on the ground increased. Dozens of human drop-ships were now flying over the city. The Strogg had a contingency plan for this. Anti-aircraft batteries opened up on the human forces. Drop-ships began to go down.
"Damn! Hold on, Chalk One. We are in for a bumpy ride!" The pilot proclaimed.
The Marines could feel the drop-ship sway as it attempted evasive manueavers. They were going to evade the enemy AA fire. Or so they thought. The AA fire pierced through the drop-ship, startling the Marines. Then, they heard an explosion.
"Fuck! Engines been shot! We are going down!" The pilot said.
"Kilo Two-Seven to C2, we are going down. I repeat, we are going down."
The radio traffic increased at this new development. The first drop-ship to be readily hit and from the Hell Hound platoon. This was a disturbing development. The drop-ship sped in a circle around the city square before finally colliding with the ground floor. The cockpit ejected from the troop compartment. The pilots' vain attempts to survive. The cockpit slammed into the ground and flipped. Enemy sniper fire tore the two pilots' to shreds. The troop compartment slowed and then ceased all movement.
"C2, we have a drop-ship down. I repeat, a bird is down. Over." Kilo Two-Eight announced.
The radio traffic increased ten-fold. It was confirmed. The drop-ship had crashed.
"Affirmative, Kilo Two-Eight. We are getting no response from Chalk One. Do you have a visual on Chalk One?" Command inquired.
Kilo Two-Eight did a flyby. The pilot could see weapons' fire coming from the troop compartment. The Hell Hound First Squad was up and running.
"Affirmative. I see weapons' fire coming from the troop compartment. Strogg are swarming the crash site. Over." Kilo Two-Eight said.
Gunnery Sergeant Hayek fired numerous rounds into the oncoming hordes of enemies. They were trapped and surrounding, holding out just barely. The other Marines were fighting as well. Surprisingly, no injuries were sustained aside from minor bruising. They would have to fight to survive.
"Chalk One, give us a SITREP. Over."
"Our situation is HOT! I repeat, HOT!" Gunny Hayek said.

Hayek hit his comm again. "Continue on to our objective! It's hot but we can hold!" Shadow yelled firing off several shots a piece of metal was imbedded in his hand from the crash making it a little hard to keep his gun steady... He yanked it out and threw it at the closest strogg and ducked letting his marines hold them back for a moment. "Gather what ammo and supplies we can we're moving to a secure location while second squad kicks ass at city hall."

"Don't you dare! You're giving the strogg time to reinforce their position! We'll live just go!" Hayek replied his squad was taking parts from the drop-ship as well as supplies and moving to a partially intact building. "We can hold till yall get done just do it! You give them too long and we'll loose more men trying to get in than just my squad!"

The Marines took cover inside a building. A Strogg Tactical ran to their old drop-ship with a rocket launcher. Suddenly, it was ripped in half. The tracer of a fifty caliber sniper rifle could be seen, then heard. The Marines cheered a bit, but Hayek calmed them down. They kept firing out the windows and doorway, downing Strogg left and right. Suddenly, a Strogg Grunt emitted a roar and charged forward. The Marines stood stunned, it was heading straight for Hayek. Suddenly, the same sniper downed the Grunt. The bullet shooting straight through its body.
It skidded to a halt before the door and disintegrated. The Marines cheered once more and then resumed firing on the enemy.
"Chalk Two, this is Chalk One. We saw you land on that building. Is that Hoot up there? Over." Hayek said into the communications.

Leon moved as the squad moved, watching the corners and turning to check blind angles often, to make sure there were no ambushes by Strogg. He breathed deep and in relief after everything had gone to shit; he still had his assault rifle and ammunition.
He had heard the sharp crack of the sniper rifle, and looked in awe at the accuracy of the shot. It had to have been taken from relatively far away. The fact that the sniper had been able to take repeated shots with a weapon of such calibre, with such accuracy in so short a period of time was in itself amazing.

Dead That was the word that flashed through Elias' head as he squeezed the trigger and blew the head off of a squib. He was surprised none of them had sustained major injuries, he was also relieved. They were cooped up in a building, not his favorite place to be.
"I need all Hell Hounds to keep me updated on your status, I can't help you if you don't tell me you need help"

Good. They had sniper cover, that helped ALOT. Jones continued to advance on the strogg, grabbing cover whenever it appeared. She fired, waiting for further orders.

"This shit shoulda never happeend" Elias mumbled to himself as yet another Strogg was gunned down. He shook his head. What was Jane doing? Was she okay? Was she still as beautiful as she had been when he'd received an updated picture of her in one of her emails? Of course she was, she had to be, she'd given him that picture only a few weeks ago. Was there anyone as beautiful as her? He doubted it. She was a UAC lackie though, he couldn't have feelings for her.
Did she have feelings for him? He doubted it. He was an ex-Nazi, ex-convict, medic in the SCM, what did he have to offer? Nothing. She probably made triple his yearly salar- Another Strogg dead. But who gave a damn? He could still treat her right couldn't he? He had all the right skills, correct? Perhaps they could make a good couple, anything is possible righ- Another's head split in two by his shotgun. He shook his head. This isn't the time or place to think about this kinda shit. . .But then again. . .It's the best place, it put him at ease. . .Didn't it? He didn't really know anymore.

"Alright keep it up marines, GDF shoulda been ready for this.. Where the hell are they anyway!?" Hayek sighed and looked around staying in one place too long gave the Strogg an offensive advantage... Shadow looked around assessing their new situation. "Alright, this is gonna be our base of operations we're going to divide up the squad to make small attacks on strogg bases in the area. Get them thinking we have more men and see if we can put them into defense." He looked at the group. "Elias you're in charge of the strike force. Sneak around the strogg forces and stay out of sight until in position to make a blitzkrieg then pull out eliminate as many as possible and come back when they attempt to retaliate. Grab 2 others and the rest of us will hold the fort. Strike teams will be switched out and they will continue until we know help is coming." Hayek sighed, and moved to a window. "They've got a team on a high building. I'm going to be a distraction while the team moves out, the rest of you cover me."
Shadow thought about his own personal life for a moment... He stopped shortly afterwards, he didn't have much of one since he got his nickname, changed him a lot. He was almost a rebel before then now he was a decently respectful marine and a Gunnery Sergeant... Not enough to make his parents too proud but enough so they'd remember their son...

Leon and Jones. That's who he'd choose. "Leon, Jones, saddle up, we're going in" he looked at his watch, "1 minute, I'll meet you at the starting line" he winked at them. His cybernetic eye was still eery as it peered around. He had the eye patch folded up in his front chest pocket. It was his good luck charm now.
At the "starting line" he waited for the two boots. Well . . . They were sort of boots. "For some reason. . .Miracles always happen for me. . .Maybe today that'll end. . ." He whispered to himself as he waited.

Hayek looked at the group and nodded, "Let's go... Follow three seconds after me." With that he pushed off the make shift barricade and started sprinting shooting at the group on top of what looked to be a former hotel and kept sprinting and firing literally running into a strogg soldier at the other side of the street and tossing about his grenades. Needless to say attracting tons of strogg fire and troops...

"C'mon" He said and began rowdy running behind cover to the rally point. He sprinted with all his strength, which was quite a bit. Years of running to wounded men in battle had made him one quick man.
Would the boots make it? Would he make it? He hoped the boots made it if it had to be a choice between them or him. Jane. Okay, maybe he did want to live, did he? He wasn't so sure anymore. . .So many things had to be thought out now. . .Once it'd been simple, now things were complicated. Elias wasn't sure if he minded complicated though. . ..

Hayek was running back as soon as he had seen the team move from the corner of his eye, sprinting back with plenty of new wounds near falling over several times from strogg fire. The squad was covering him as best they could though, leaving plenty of strogg dead that attempted to kill Hayek. He looked at the wounds most scratches from shots that barely grazed him. A couple actually penetrated his skin and now were stuck there till a medic could tend to him but he'd be find none of it was serious. "Good luck..." He murmured and started firing again... Atleast the squad had a drop-ship of supplies and ammo...
