Dear current players and applicants,
This game is meant to be fun. Marines die, it is natural. However, one way to keep your character's chances of survival higher is to keep in mind that this is not a movie or video game. This is a creative writing RPG.
This is a friendly reminder to all who apply and those playing.
Your character must seem realistic; this is not a contest on who creates the most hardcore character. There will be no more Marines with any kind of training by the Union Aerospace Corporation or any other organization. There will be no more Marines with highly-specialized military-grade skills developed from childhood. These guys are just human - tougher, maybe faster, stronger and better trained than civilians, but still human.
There will be no more characters who have been a member of a mercenary/private security company/black-ops outfit that carries out missions of a questionable nature (assassinations, protecting a facility doing illegal research, etc.) or has done said missions on their own. The SMC is not in the business of conducting illegal missions, nor do they recruit individuals with shady pasts or a serious criminal record. There will be no more with huge psychiatric problems or are on the verge of a nervous breakdown - realistically such individuals will be given a medical discharge rather than have them continue active duty.
There will be no cowboy/Rambo style posts. Your one Marine will not be able to stand alone against countless enemies, shoot from the hip and wipe out an enemy squad, charge into battle with nothing but a blade or run into a Strogg, surprising it. The enemies the staff create are chosen for a reason. Mercenary/pirate/terrorist groups, Strogg, etc... they are not generic foes. It takes proper tactics and teamwork from the Marines to face them.
This is a note, a friendly memo from the staff. Keep your characters real, keep them safer. Do not let yourselves end up being banned or having your character killed for the purposes above. We do not enjoy killing off characters, but we will make situations appropriate. It is our job to keep this a fun experience for everyone. Thank you for your time and consideration.
