The Marines had the chance to sight see before going to the movies. They visited trailer parks, urban slums, and urban metropolises. They were able to visit specific areas where Eminem's film, "8 Mile" had been filmed and produced and had stopped at a local MacDonalds to get some food. Luckily, it was a different one than what Hoot had shown off his Burger King suit in.
When they left, they headed straight to the main plaza in the city where the movie theatre was. Though occassionally would see police vehicles driving by quickly, heading to a scene of the crime. All the occupants of the van could think was, "Welcome To Detroit City." The group played Breaking Benjamin and Linkin Park, and then the very Eminem song entitled, "Welcome to Detroit City" aired on the radio. The irony of this made them laugh. The parked the van in the parking lot and exited the vehicle. As they reached the ticket booths, the lieutenant turned to Jones.
"Jones, can I speak to you for a moment?" The lieutenant inquired, then looked at Shadow, "Just get our tickets' and wait for us in the lobby."
The lieutenant obviously had something important to discuss with Private Jones. But what, was something she was curious to know.
Meanwhile...
Beep, beep, beep went the sensor machine, picking up multiple signals at the end of the Solar System. Colonel Joseph Strauss walked over to Sergeant Major Garner, who was manning the station.
"What do we have here, sergeant major?"
The sergeant major scrutinized the signals. He saw six large dots, indicating something massive was on its way. Its trajectory pointed towards Earth or its moon. Odd. But suspiciousness grew within the sergeant major.
"Multiple contacts. Large. Cannot be identified at this range. Could be an asteroid... or Strogg." The sergeant major said, his concerns showing outwardly.
"I highly doubt that, sergeant major. The Space Navy First Fleet is on its way to Earth and should arrive by either later tonight or tomorrow at 0900. And from the looks of those contacts, it should probably take them about that long."
"Sir, with all due respect, are you so sure it is a friendly fleet?"
The colonel stood and scrutinized the man. His concerns were duely noted and he could understand them perfectly, but the Strogg's fleets had been decimated when Stroggos was hit. It would be impossible for the Strogg to amass another fleet to counterstrike Earth. The numbers proved this. He was quite sure it was a friendly fleet preparing to dock with Earth for awhile while routine inspections of each individual ship were performed, giving the crews some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Leave time was always something cherished by either branch of the Space Military.
"I am quite sure. Sergeant Major, your concerns are noted; but, as I have said, it is probably one of our fleets returning for their routine inspections. Just keep monitoring the console and keep me updated, alright?" The colonel said.
"Yes sir."
"Good man. Now, carry on." The Full Bird said, then left the large command center.
The sergeant major was not so convinced, though, the colonel had said to keep him posted. So, he would endeavor to do so. To keep the man informed on the situation. He had the feeling that the safe and secure nature the colonel was putting off would be the death of them. He would work hard and continue to monitor the contacts. He wanted to fully identify them before he did anything else. Until he identified if it was a threat, however, he could not alert the high command and bring the Space Navy and Marines to alert. Something he had to regret, really.
